This is the most amazing thing I’ve seen a politician say on television. Four minutes and thirty seconds into the interview, when asked, Bernie Sanders says;
The truth is- well, let me break the bad news to the American people- big money interests control the Unites States Congress.
Watch start at 4:30 and watch the rest, it’s depressingly accurate and given from the perspective of a US Senator.
I don’t agree with much of what Bernie Sanders says or does in terms of public policy… but I adore his style, candor, and honesty.
Matt Taibbi’s take on Sanders, in his fantastic Smells Like Dead Elephants, dealing with the Senator’s transition to the United States Senate (after a long and quite independent run in the House of Representatives) is revealing and remarkable.
Wow wow wow, amazing commentary about the state of our country, and our political ‘discourse’! Will have to check out more about someone willing to be so uncharacteristically forthright. In the face of the spot-on grilling he got from the MSNBC crew, I think, he made it totally clear that this bill was almost completely about using taxpayer resources to continue to feed big insurance and big Pharma, though. I don’t know if that serves even his claim that lots of people will be ‘saved’ by the bill who would otherwise have been lost. Because I sense that what’s good for those healthcare players isn’t necessarily good for, you know, people.
